WEEKLY CHECKLIST

Automated updates and backups are handy, but even they can fail unexpetedly and without notification sometimes, so it's always a good idea to check them yourself on a regular basis.

STEP 1 WINDOWS UPDATE
Windows should be set to automatically check and install any necessary updates each night, but it's worth double checking to make sure you're not missing any critical updates.
Go to [START] > Control Panel > Windows Updates or click the link here: Windows Update

STEP 2 VIRUS DEFINITIONS - Symantec / Norton AntiVirus
If you can, make sure your Anti-Virus definitions are up to date.
Run Symantec / Norton AntiVirus and look for a screen showing the date of Virus Definitions. If it's older than 1 week perform a LiveUpdate to get the most recent definitions.

STEP 3 SPYWARE SCAN - Microsoft Windows Defender
Locate the Microsoft Windows Defender icon on the lower right hand side of your computer screen, or in the START > All Programs menu. If you can't locate it, or it's expired, try installing a new version by clicking here.
Run a scan and make sure everything is up to date.

STEP 4 OFFICE UPDATE
Some versions of Microsoft Office may also require updates and may not be automatic. To check for updates and install them manually, just click here: office.microsoft.com and follow the instructions on the Microsoft Office web site.

STEP 5 CHECK BACKUP
Check your backup, whether it's a tape backup on the server, or an online offiste backup like QuickBooks Online backup, you need to check the status and/or logs to make sure it's running properly.
