HARD DRIVE FAILURES
If your computer has failed due to a hard drive failure and it is still under the manufacturer's warranty this is what you should do. Your valuable data is usually on these hard drives so it's important to understand the options.
|
In the case of SERVERS, there servers will be spare drives, sometimes called redundant or mirrored or RAID drives. This allows the server to remain running without any data loss in the event that one of the hard drives fail. When this happens the server will continue running, but with less protection, so it's still important that the hard drive is replaced soon, although it might not be necessary to have it replaced within a few hours. |
In the case of computers, they often will only have one hard drive, so the computer will stop functioning when the hard drive fails. Hewlett-Packard and Dell will replace the hard drive under warranty. Here are your options:
OPTION 1
HP/Dell will send out their Service Technician to replace the hard drive. He will take the old hard drive with him when he leaves. If there was any data on the old drive you'll loose it. We will come in afterwards to re-install Windows and all software and settings to get the PC back up and running.
OPTION 2
HP/Dell ships you a new hard drive. We will come and install it. That gives us the chance to see if any of the data on the old hard drive is salvagable before you send the old one back (you usually have 10 days to ship the old drive back). We then reinstall Windows and all the software and settings to get the PC back up and running.
OPTION 3
If HP/Dell can't send someone or ship you a hard drive as fast as you would want, we can come with a new hard drive (cost about $80-$120) and get you up and running more quickly.
